Chapter 2: Dangerous Liaisons

Since we have mandatory AP meetings during break and lunch on Wednesdays, I won’t be able to chill today. Sometimes this whole AP thing is highly overrated. And when the AP exams come in spring, I won’t have any time to socialize outside of the informal club at all.

I hate these meetings. They’re long and boring. “Like I want to sit there!” Jayd thought. And after all those meetings it all leads down to my least favorite teacher Mrs. Bennett. After she confronted me about dating Jeremy I never liked her. Her voice and her perfume make me sick. Usually I always eat a snickers bar but now with seeing her face I can’t eat.

“Jayd!” Chynah said snapping me out of my little world. Chynah is Jayd’s friend and has been her friend since 7^th grade. Jayd is now in 11^th grade. I’m glad because I was about to mentally choke Mrs. Bennett. Chynah is 16 she would love to go to Princeton University. Chynah grades are the bomb (y’all know what that mean). Jayd and Chynah both got accepted to Harvard University. Chynah wants to go further. Jayd doesn’t mind going to Princeton.

“What’s up” jayd said looking over her shoulder because she was facing her locker. “Hey Hun, what class you ‘bout to go to?’’ Chynah said. Jayd had a weird facial expression because Chynah was in Jayd’s class that she was switching to. “Sadly Mrs. Bennett.” Jayd said. Jayd was mad she had to switch to that old lady! “Oh, damn jayd.” Chynah said laughing. “Hoe you got her ass too.” Jayd said seriously not finding shit funny with Chynah.  Jayd was now laughing because Chynah wasn’t. “What the hell is funny Jayd?” Chynah said trying so hard not hard not to laugh at jayd facial expression. Ring Ring! The bell rung. “C’mon hoe!” jayd said sounding like she was so disappointed.

In Mrs. Bennett Class

“Okay Class!” Mrs. Bennett said trying to calm the class down from 5 minutes of talking. “What Now?” Jayd said because Jeremy wasn’t in school and he called her 5 times and she never answered. She didn’t know it was time to stop talking. “Jayd what was that?” Mrs. Bennett said sounding confused. “Nothing continue your lesson or speech or whatever you was saying!” Jayd was annoyed because of her phone constantly ringing.

How she knew!

The night before was prom. Jayd didn’t go with Jeremy she went with Rah. One day, jayd was in the car with her mom. Her mom was blasting Pink Friday. Jayd loved Nicki Minaj, but she was in the mood for talking. So she called Jeremy. Jeremy answered; Jayd and Jeremy talked for about 20 mins. Jeremy just blurted it out and asked jayd “So did you have fun at prom last night?’’ Jeremy said quickly. Jayd was nervous she didn’t want Jeremy to know that she still talked to Rah. “Jayd?” Jeremy asked annoyed because she didn’t answer. “Yes I did.” Jayd answered trying to sound confident. “Who did you go with?” Jeremy asked, he knew jayd was up to something it never took her that long to answer a question. “Jeremy!” Jayd said about to ask him something but confused about what she was going to ask him for. “Yes honey” Jeremy said. “Can I ask you something?” jayd said. “Yes.” Jeremy said sounding clueless about why jayd asked that. “Okay. Why do you ask me so many questions?” Jayd said biting her nails because she was nervous. “Just tell the boy jayd” mama said. “Tell him what mama?’’ jayd asked to see what mama was trying to say. “Tell him the truth that you went with Rah.” Mama said. Jayd was wondering how her mom knew. She said it loud enough so Jeremy could hear. “Jayd you went with that nigga Rah? Don’t lie to me Jayd!” Jeremy said now mad at jayd. “Jeremy, yes I went with Rah to prom, but trust me nothing happened.” Jayd said beginning to get a little frightened because Jeremy didn’t like Rah at all. They fought and Rah beat Jeremy so ever since then Jeremy never like Rah. “Jayd don’t lie to me!” Jeremy said starting to have anger in his voice. “Jeremy please. Okay all we did was kissed. Jayd said not really wanting to tell him the truth. All of a sudden Jayd heard a click. “Jeremy?’’ she said, she heard nothing. She put the phone on the charger in the car. She then began talking to her mom. “Mama how did you know that, that is what I was thinking?” jayd was really confused. “Baby, I never told anyone this, but I can read minds.” Mama said. Jayd was now shocked and had nothing to say. She forced her self to talk. “But why, how, what---“Before jayd could finish her sentence her mom said “Jayd I don’t know how, that’s just how the Williams family is.”

Chapter 1: Just Friends

After both Rah’s surprise kiss yesterday afternoon and my first dream last night about Jeremy being Tania’s baby daddy, I’m even more confused about what to do with Rah and Jeremy. I can’t front, Rah’s kiss is still making me tingle, and I have to see Jeremy this morning. How can I look Jeremy in the face after what I did? Well, technically, what Rah did? But I could have stopped him if I really wanted to.

“Jayd, get out the bathroom. I need to go now,” my cousin said. Snapping me back into real life from my thinking session. Because I was so into my thinking session, my hair wasn’t done, I hadn’t brushed my teeth, didn’t shower yet, and didn’t get dressed, So I rushed through my morning routine. My cousin made sure that I had hurried because he constantly knocked on the door, and I constantly told him “To Wait.” He ended up leaving from in front of the bathroom door. “When I leave you can come and handle your business but while I’m still in the bathroom you will have to wait” Jayd says not knowing if Bryan is still at the door. She said it loud enough so mama can hear it. “Girl he’s gone” says mama. “How did she know he moved?” Jayd was confused. Once again mama was reading her mind “Seriously I’m going to have to say something to Mama about this mess with her being able to read my mind” Jayd says. Jayd is now done with her morning routine. As Jayd walks into her room to put on her shoes and grab her book bag mama is now gone. She was no longer in that comfortable position. She had went in the kitchen to make me breakfast. She knew Bryan wasn’t going to cook for me “That old fat pig” Jayd thought about Bryan. Jayd was now eating her Pancakes, bacon, eggs, and drinking her orange juice. She received an incoming text from Jeremy as it read “be there in 5 minutes” Jayd was now rushing to eat her food. Mama was looking as Jayd as if she was crazy. “What did I do mama?” Jayd asked. “nothing baby girl.”  “okay Mama well Jeremy is on his way. I have to go now” Jayd says kissing her mom on her cheek. “ bye baby have a good day at school.”

Prologue

“Sometimes the people you think are your friends can be your worst enemies,” my mom says. I can hear her voice, but I can’t see a thing. I feel suspended in time, like I’m in between the dream world and reality. “Yeah, Mom. I feel you.” Did I say that aloud or in my head?

“They pretend to be your friend, while all the while, they really want more. They either want to feed off your popularity, talent, cookies, anything you’ve got to give. Whatever they think they can have they will take.”

This feels too real to be a dream.

“Remember, Jayd, lust takes all love gives. And, I’m not talking about material things. Friends give there true selves to you. Frenemies, on the other hand, pretend to give until you start reciprocating. Then the giving turns into taking. And those are not friends. Those people are leaches. And, like all leaches, they must have eliminated in order for you to thrive.

     

For the second time since falling asleep last night, I sit straight up in my bed, breathing hard and sweating like I just ran a mile. Good thing I shower in the morning. Damn, what was that? It wasn’t like really a dream. It was more like a psychic conversation between me and my mom. I wonder if she did that on purpose.

My mom being able to read my mind really freaks me out still. She says she can get only in my head. I wonder how long she’s been able to read my thoughts. Now she’s sneaking into my dream. Man, this is getting to be a bit too much for a sister. But, like my mom said, it comes with the territory of being a Williams woman, just like out never-ending drama. “Jayd, wake up, girl. You’re already five minutes late.” Mama says without moving out of her comfortable position In the bed across from mine. How she knows what time it is without looking, I’ll never know. But I know she’s right. I can hear Bryan stirring around in the kitchen, so I know it must be past time for me to get up. As I stumble out of my twin size bed to retrieve my outfit for day from behind my bedroom door, I accidentally step on the rhinestone sandals Jeremy brought me sticking out from underneath my bed. “Remember your mother’s words, Jayd,” Mama says, making me recall the dream I just snapped out of. As if it isn’t bad enough I have Mama in my head, now my mom has crept her way in, too. What The Hell?
